MICHAEL STEWART - LEAD TRUMPET
Dr. Michael Stewart (b. 1965) holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Composition
from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Arts degree in Trumpet
Performance from Eastern Illinois University, and a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz
Studies from the University of Akron (OH). Although he primarily writes for jazz and
brass ensembles, his compositions also cover a far reaching range of styles and genres.
Dr. Stewart maintains an active teaching studio and performing career in the Chicago
area. In addition to the Jim Guter Big Band, he currently plays lead trumpet with
the Chicago Grandstand Big Band, the Ron Mills Orchestra, the Dana Legg Jazz Band,
the Grand Avenue Big Band, the Vito Buffalo Orchestra, and as a freelance classical
soloist. Dr. Stewart is the director of the Maine South High School (Park Ridge, IL)
Jazz Band I, and in 2001-2002 was the Composer in Residence for Lockport Township HS
in Illinois. He also has served as an adjunct faculty member to Roosevelt University
(Chicago) and Lewis University (Romeoville, IL).

SCOTT KELLEY - TRUMPET
Scott Kelley graduated from Valparaiso University in 1992 with a degree in Electrical
Engineering. While at Valpo, Scott played lead trumpet in the University Jazz Lab Band and
had the opportunity to play with such great jazz musicians like James Moody, Buddy DeFranco,
Slide Hampton and Clark Terry. Scott also was a founding member of the student jazz combo
Central Standard Time. In addition to the Jim Guter Big Band, Scott also plays in the South
Suburban College concert band in South Holland. Scott works for an engineering firm in Chicago
and currently resides in Winfield.

MARK ROLLER - TRUMPET
Mark received his master's degree in jazz studies from NIU and his bachelor's degree in music
education from Stetson University in Florida. He has been a jazz band director at Western
Illinois University's summer camp, as well as the director of jazz bands at Geneva Middle
School. He founded and directed the jazz band for the NIU community School of the Arts. While
at NIU, he was a memeber of the NIU Jazz Ensemble and was named best soloist in 2004 for the
Skyway Jazz Festival.

DAN TOUSSAINT - TRUMPET
Daniel Toussaint was a regular member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago from 2003-2004. During his
tenure with the Civic Orchestra, Daniel performed under the direction of distinguished conductors
such as Pierre Boulez, Pinchas Zukerman, and Daniel Barenboim. While performing with the Civic
Orchestra, he received instruction from Mark Ridenour (Second Trumpet, Chicago Symphony Orchestra)
and Adolph Herseth (Former Principal Trumpet, Chicago Symphony Orchestra). Mr. Toussaint is currently
an active freelance musician in the Chicagoland area. In addition to performing with the Civic Orchestra,
he has performed with the Rockford Symphony Orchestra, the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, the Richmond
(IN) Symphony Orchestra, and the Bach Chorale Singers of Lafayette, IN. Daniel holds a Master of Music
degree in trumpet performance from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from
Northern Illinois University. In addition to performing, Daniel has taught numerous private students
and has adjudicated solo and band contests, including the IMEA District VII Band Festival.
